3.4.1

May 5th, 2021

  • Fixed crash when loading a sound list with hotbar identifiers, that don't exist.

3.4.0

April 30th, 2021

Hotbar

  • The hotbar can now have multiple pages.
  • Changed rendering, which is much faster with many entries.
  • Changing the grid format is now quicker and moving the window with 1000 Hz mouse polling rate on Windows 10 Build 19041 or newer lags less.

Hotkeys and Auto Keys

  • Added option, which allows to assign hotkeys to a row rather than to a sound. Pressing the hotkey will play the sound at the row of the currently selected category (File ▶ Preferences ▶ Hotkeys ▶ Same hotkeys in all categories).
  • Fixed: Using undo, after setting a random category hotkey, which overwrote a sound file hotkey, didn't restore the hotkey of the sound file.
  • Changed hotkey prioritization. Hotbar hotkeys now have a higher priority than random category hotkeys or sound file hotkeys. If you load a sound list, which contains sounds with hotkeys, that are already in use by the hotbar, then the hotkeys of the hotbar will prevail.
  • Fixed detection of fullscreen windows in multi-monitor setups for the Auto Key rule Press when foreground application is fullscreen.
  • Fixed Auto Keys being affected by the state of num lock, when used with particular keys like Home or End.
  • Changed Alt+Numcode recognition. It now takes the last key down on the numpad into account even if Alt is released before the numpad key.
  • Fixed: Alt+Numcode hotkeys on hotbar entries weren't saved correctly and vanished upon next start.
  • Attributes of special hotkeys are now shown in the hotkey overview, e.g. Volume up by 5% instead of just Volume up by.

Installer and compatibility updates

  • On certain audio devices Soundpad wasn't working in Skype, Lync, Microsoft Teams and similar voice applications, because they used DSP offloading, which bypassed Soundpad. This update contains a workaround to bypass their bypass. To apply it: Go to File ▶ Preferences ▶ Devices, deselect your microphone, apply, then select it again and Restart Win-Audio or your computer.
  • Fixed another problem with Nahimic related driver incompatibilities (requires reinstalling of Soundpad).
  • Fixed general incompatibility with Microsoft's Surface Pro, Microsoft's Surface Laptops, Monster Tulpar Laptops and HP Envy Laptops (requires reinstalling of Soundpad).
  • Fixed another conflict with WAVES MAXXAUDIO (requires reinstalling of Soundpad).

Remote control interface

  • Updated the remote control interface to version 1.1.1.
  • Added method: DoPlaySoundFromCategory. See reference implementation for details.
  • Added ACL to the interface, so UWP apps can access it.
  • Calls from command line are now also logged when logRcCalls is enabled.
  • Updated return codes to contain additional information about errors.

Others

  • The sound recorder now negotiates differently with the audio drivers about the audio format. That should accommodate flaws of the drivers and fix the 88890008 error for many devices.
  • Audio files with format changes inside the stream can now be decoded properly.
  • Rename or delete categories on key down.
  • Fixed NumDel deleting the selected category, although NumDel was assigned as a hotkey and should've been blocked.
  • Added minimum size to the main window in the dark and light themes. It's not possible to resize the window until it is completely gone anymore.
  • Show correct SteamID in the About dialog instead of the multiseat account id.
  • Fixed wrong position of the register button in the About dialog.
  • Fixed crash if the Media Feature Pack is installed, but its resampler module is missing or broken.
  • Fixed occasional crash when Soundpad is launched by adding a sound from Meowpad. The sound import will now wait for Soundpad to fully initialize first.
  • Fixed occasional error message on exit of Soundpad, when the working copy of the sound list couldn't be saved on the first try.
  • The error message, that is shown if a save operation fails, now also contains an error code.
  • Fixed logger: Log level was falsely reset from NOLOG to INFO.
  • Fixed some typos in German translation.

3.3.2

July 18th, 2020
  • Minor spelling correction in Norwegian translation.

3.3.1

July 16th, 2020
  • Fixed error in remote control interface, which prevented the Text-To-Speech app from working correctly.
  • Logging of remote commands is now turned off by default and can be turned on by setting logRcCalls to 1 in the registry.
  • The old num lock functionality can be enabled by setting numLock to 1 in the registry.

3.3.0

July 15th, 2020

Major

  • Meowpad was recently updated and supports sound lists. Soundpad can now download such lists with one click.
  • Added history of the last ten sounds, that have been played. See new menu entries Edit ▶ Select recently played file and Play ▶ Play recently played file. The list resets automatically upon restart of Soundpad.
  • Added two special hotkeys, one to play the current file again and another one to play the previously played file.
  • Added a context menu to the seek slider and to the track time, which allows you to select the currently played file and the category it is in. Double-clicking the time does the same.
  • Added auto stop option, that is turned on by default. What it does, is explained in its tooltip in the preferences (File ▶ Preferences ▶ Hotkeys ▶ Advanced options).
  • Updated remote control interface to version 1.1.0. It can deal with categories and some new functions. Remote control commands are now logged (Help ▶ Show Log).
  • Added language confirmation.
  • Added reset button to the preferences window, with which you can reset all your local preferences to defaults. The sound list or system wide changes on the recording devices remain unchanged. To reset system wide changes you need to uninstall Soundpad.
  • Added launch parameter --clean, which resets all your local preferences.

Hotkey handling

  • Numpad hotkeys now ignore the status of Num Lock.
  • Numpad hotkeys aren't restrictive anymore and can be used with all modifiers.
  • Left and right modifiers are handled separately allowing you to set Ctrl+1 and RCtrl+1 hotkeys. You can enable the old behavior in the hotkey preferences (File ▶ Preferences ▶ Hotkeys ▶ Advanced options).
  • Added recovery of wrong modifier states, when the release of modifier keys is blocked by the system or by other applications, e.g. when pressing Win+L or Ctrl+Alt+Del or when using DisplayFusion and pressing Alt+Tab.
  • Improved performance of hotkey recognition when a lot of hotkeys are configured.

Others

  • Fixed volume slider being attached to the wrong playback device in a particular configuration.
  • Fixed special case in the installer when all microphone effects were disabled before installing Soundpad.
  • Updated installer to install differently for certain ASUS headsets like the ROG or TUF on Windows 10 with ROG Armoury II.
  • Double-clicking a special hotkey or auto key in the hotkey overview now jumps to the appropriate entry in the preferences.
  • Added separate special hotkeys to start recording from speakers or to start recording from microphone.
  • Added separate notification sounds when starting to record from speakers or microphone. The old shorter notification sound is still available and if you want to have it working as it was before this patch, you can choose the old recording.m4a notification sound at File ▶ Preferences ▶ Notifications for Start to record speakers and Start to record microphone.
  • Playing random sounds from the menu now selects the sound file and the category it is in.
  • Double-clicking the splitter between categories and sounds doesn't close the categories anymore.
  • The hidden all sounds category can now be selected from the menu even if the categories panel is closed.
  • Bring window to foreground when opened by double-click from tray icon. It could happen that it wasn't shown when other windows hid it behind themselves.
  • Custom theme only: Removed small gaps between the minimize, maximize and close button. Clicking in these gaps was handled like a click on the title bar and allowed to move the window.
  • Custom theme only: The maximize icon now changes when the window is maximized.
  • Custom theme only: Fixed submenus staying open sometimes.
  • Added option to configure whether typing automatically opens and starts a search (File ▶ Preferences ▶ Interface ▶ Misc ▶ Typing begins search).
  • Restarting Win-Audio will now apply all device changes before the audio service is restarted. In previous versions you had to apply the changes first.
  • The option to reduce other applications volume now also disables the appropriate option in Windows when it is being disabled in Soundpad.
  • Added custom tooltip to the volume slider, which shouldn't flicker like the old one.
  • Added save button to the troubleshooting window and a refresh option.
  • Removed obsolete -t and --theme launch parameter entirely. You might see an error message if you still have -t 2 in your launch parameters.
  • Different visual adjustments in all dialogs and windows for the upcoming support of right to left languages.

3.2.16

April 30th, 2020
  • Fixed installation on Realtek devices with disabled composite effects.
  • Fixed installation on devices with partly uninstalled Clownfish, which left over a dead component on the device.
  • Fixed installer for Tosbiha notebooks (model Tecra S11), where the microphone became silent after installation of Soundpad.

3.2.14

April 24th, 2020
  • Updated installer of standalone version:
    • The installation won't abort with a generic and meaningless message on systems where the primary requirement to have at least one recording device isn't met. The installation will continue instead. However, Soundpad won't be able to play anything on a microphone as there is none on the system.
    • The installation will instantly abort with an appropriate message on systems without Media Features, like Windows N versions.
  • Reworked installer: It is now checking a lot more of the system's requisites before deciding how to install the driver extension.
    • Fixes problems with different Logitech headsets and different Realtek(R) drivers.
    • Fixes general problems, that occur on allegedly healthy drivers, which contain unused remnants.
    • Fixes restart required issue on old Windows 10 versions 1507 and 1511.
    • Added quite a lot new tests to the installer. Thanks to everyone for sending in the diagnostic troubleshooting reports. These reports essentially help to improve the reliability of Soundpad.
  • The troubleshooting report now lists the latest Windows errors, that have to do with the audio service and Soundpad. This helps to identify conflicts with driver effects.
  • Removed old helper library UniteFxControl.dll.
Important: If the patch doesn't work on your system immediately, then re-install Soundpad. If asked for a restart, then do it only once.

3.2.7

April 7th, 2020
  • Changed installer for Windows 10 systems with preinstalled legacy effects, which is mostly seen on older notebooks from Acer, HP and Samsung. Previous versions of Soundpad tried to build upon the legacy effects, which could lead to different unpredictable problems depending on system and drivers, e.g. low volume of the microphone.
  • Fixed restart required problem on systems with malfunctioning Nahimic effects.
Important: To get this patch working on affected systems, you need to re-install Soundpad or to uncheck, apply and re-check your microphone in Soundpad's device preferences.

  • Fixed decoding of OGG Opus mono files.

3.2.4

March 18th, 2020

  • Windows DRM validation won't be turned off on Windows 10 anymore. Soundpad now works with enabled or disabled DRM validation. (fix from beta)

  • Updated digital code signing.
  • Moved sound recorder menu entry from File to Window. The shortcut Ctrl+R remains as before.
  • Restore window position even if half of the window is outside of the most left monitor.
  • Auto Keys won't trigger unintended actions in Soundpad anymore, e.g. opening the search panel.
  • Reworked rendering audio on speakers and recording from speakers. This will solve error 88890008 for some users, but some may instead get code 1 now. We would really like to get some feedback on that one. If you get an error upon recording, please contact us and tell us which USB headphones or notebook or motherboard you use.
  • Added menu entry to clear recently loaded sound lists.
  • Integrated latest Steam SDK 1.46 in the Steam edition.
  • Fixed issue where sound stats (play count and last played on) weren't loaded for all files in all categories
  • If you chose to add a recording to the currently selected category (File ▶ Preferences ▶ Recording ▶ Add to category), then this choice is properly displayed now.

3.0.4

3.0.0

July 4th, 2018

Categories

  • Organize your sound collection by using categories.
  • Set icons for categories by dropping images on them.
  • Play a random file from a certain category by setting a hotkey for that category.
  • Added new hotkey preferences at File ▶ Preferences ▶ Hotkeys ▶ Numpad Hotkeys, that allow you to set an index to a category, e.g. 5, so index hotkeys beginning with 5 will play sound files from that category.

Hotbar

  • Drop sound files on the hotbar for quick access. Try it out at Window ▶ Hotbar.
  • Play a sound file by left-click or by assigning a hotkey to the hotbar entry.

Hotkeys

  • Added an overview of all configured hotkeys. Access the overview from the menu at Window ▶ Hotkeys ▶ Hotkey overview.
  • Added option to enable or disable all hotkeys (the H-icon in the status bar). This option always resets when you start Soundpad.
  • Made hotkeys work on key down, which makes it much easier to trigger hotkeys like Shift+1. Exceptions to this rule are numpad hotkeys like the Alt+Numcode or Ctrl+Alt+Index hotkeys.

Export

  • Export compact sound lists, sound files or preferences at File ▶ Export.
  • The sound list format changed with the introduction of categories. If you want to save sound lists the old way, e.g. to make playlists of albums, then you can export a compact list. This list contains only the files of the selected category and no additional information.
  • Backup all your sound files and the sound list to a directory of your choice. It will physically copy over all the files.
  • Backup preferences into a REG-file. Restore your preferences by closing Soundpad and executing the REG-file.

Others

  • Added option to the recorder preferences to specify in which category recordings should land. The same option also applies to sounds, that you download from Meowpad.
  • The volume measurement changes the configured value only if the measured value was above the minimum of 59 dB.
  • For users of index hotkeys: the index is now defined by the order in the All sounds category. This category is hidden by default and can be shown from the menu at File ▷ Window ▷ Categories ▷ All sounds.
  • The command line argument -rc DoPlaySound(index) now plays the sound file at position "index" from the All sounds category.
  • Added special handling when microphone access is denied, because of the microphone privacy settings on Windows 10 with April 2018 update.
  • Added auto scrolling to the sound list when dragging a sound file to the first or last visible entries in the list.
  • Added automatic safe start if the application was not closed properly.

  • Changed file hashing on non NTFS file systems to prevent hash collisions. In collision cases different files shared the same stats (play count, last played on).
  • Fixed application freeze when starting the sound recorder after a driver or system update has changed sound device identifiers.
  • Fixed: when Soundpad was closed to tray, then it didn't come back to front when run again from superbar or by clicking the executable.
  • Fixed: Saving the sound list while a sound is being played, removed the currently played sound name from the main window title.

2.6.7

April 1st, 2018
  • FLAC and OGG now support unicode file names and tags.
  • Added launch parameter -rc, that allows to execute certain commands in Soundpad like play or stop a sound. Use Soundpad --help on a command line to get a list of available commands.

  • Fixed regression as of v2.6.5: File import from Meowpad failed.

2.6.5

March 31st, 2018
  • Fixed not translated message when playback of a file fails.
  • Added support for FLAC, MP4 and OGG. MP4 will play the first audio stream available if there is more than one.

2.6.3

March 20th, 2018
  • Fixed visual bug: moving sounds within the sound list didn't refresh sounds in between.
  • Fixed: Special hotkey to play the selected file didn't trigger Auto Keys.
  • Rolled back the integrity level handling of patch 2.6.0. It should make hotkeys more reliable even when Soundpad was not explicitly run as administrator, but it also had drawbacks, in particular in the Steam edition, but also with certain Auto Keys elements.

2.6.2

March 14th, 2018
  • Added Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian translations.
  • Fixed drag & drop from file explorer onto Soundpad not working in certain setups. The problem and its fix only apply to the full version of Soundpad and not to the Steam edition.

  • Added special hotkeys to select the previous or the next file.
  • Fixed mouse wheel scrolling issue in the preferences window.

2.6.0

February 20th, 2018

Play mode

  • The play mode determines whether a sound is played back on speakers, microphone, or both when you play it by hotkey, double-click, Enter or Play icon.
  • You can change the play mode in the status bar by left-clicking or right-clicking the very first icon or from the Play menu or by using special hotkeys.
  • The play mode only affects the next sound you play with the above mentioned actions. It doesn't change on-the-fly and doesn't affect a currently played sound.
  • When you play the first sound after application start and the play mode is not set to default (speakers and microphone), then you will be remembered by an acoustic notification about the active play mode. This notification can be disabled in the preferences by unchecking File ▶ Preferences ▶ Notifications ▶ Play mode ▶ Notify me when playing first sound after application start.

Auto Keys

  • This feature presses keys automatically when you play sounds (Thanks to Entity for suggesting it).
  • It is the A-icon in the status bar. You can enable or disable Auto Keys by double-clicking this icon or by using special hotkeys.
  • Although the idea looked easy in the beginning, you'll see that it comes with a lot of options and conditions. You really should take some time to set it up properly, so keys aren't automatically pressed in situations you don't want to.

Hotkeys

  • There were many users struggling with hotkeys in certain games and the only solution was to run Soundpad as administrator or to start Soundpad after the game. That's not necessary now. We entirely revised hotkey handling and fixed problematic restrictions.
  • Hotkeys are more reliable now and should work everywhere even if Soundpad isn't run as administrator.
  • If a game deliberately blocks hotkeys, then Soundpad goes into a fallback mode and still processes them.
  • Hotkeys can now be entered easier, even if the hotkey dialog is not focused. It's particularly helpful when entering mouse hotkeys, as you can click anywhere on the screen.
  • Removed the obsolete options Use keyboard hook and Timeout of Numpad Hotkeys.

Notifications

  • Added notification sounds for different hotkey actions like starting or stopping a recording, enabling or disabling Auto Keys and switching play modes.
  • You can configure the notifications at File ▶ Preferences ▶ Notifications.
  • Special behavior for the recording notification: the recording will begin immediately after the notification sound was fully played, so it isn't recorded as well.

Others

  • Remember distinct directories of add sound files and load/save sound list.
  • The working copy of the sound list is now saved periodically every 5 minutes if there were changes and once on application exit like in previous versions.
  • Restoring scroll position and selected sound upon application start is now done independently of the preference Remember playback state throughout application starts.
  • Fixed bad layout in several frames when the system's text and item size was changed from Smaller (100% default) to Medium (125%) or Larger (150%).
  • Fixed text color in device preferences to be derived from system's theme settings.
  • Fixed inaccurate Karaoke timing issue.
  • Fixed very short sound files not being played on speakers if Karaoke was set to a negative value between -124 and -1 and sound was issued to be played on speakers and microphone.
  • Updated installer to set more restrictive permissions on required registry keys and folders. This fixes the rare issue that block voice could only be changed when Soundpad was run as administrator.
  • Fix for notebooks with specific Realtek audio drivers designed by Bang & Olufsen and other specific Realtek audio drivers being shipped with WAVES' MAXXAUDIO. Both enhance microphone volume in a very late stage of audio processing and previous versions of Soundpad interrupted it.

  • Play selected section in Sound Editor is now exact. Previous versions stopped playback loosely some milliseconds after the selection's end was reached.
  • Fixed Sound Editor's vertical growth each time it was opened.
  • Fixed application crash when downloading files from Meowpad. Crash had to do with displaying the download speed, which is only shown when the download takes a little longer and as such the crash appeared to happen randomly.
  • Fixed application crash when updating from within Soundpad. Same reason as above. Update from 2.5.5 to 2.5.7 must be done manually.
  • Increased special hotkey table width to better fit certain languages.

  • Added Chinese (Simplified), French, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil) and Russian translations.

2.5.2

December 1st, 2017
  • Added audio ducking option to reduce the volume of other applications when playing sounds.
  • Added fade-in and fade-out effects to the sound editor. If you set the cursor at a position without selecting any section, then fade-in will work from beginning to the cursor and fade-out from cursor to end.
  • Fixed dynamic volume normalization for sounds shorter than 0.4 seconds.
  • Fixed negative Karaoke values to not stop the playback line prematurely.

2.5.1
